Porsche 914 Badges: 1.8 (Liter)

More Displacement, Less Power

The 1974 model year marked the end of the 1.7L Porsche 914, as the less powerful 914 models were beefed up to a displacement of 1.8L. Unfortunately, horsepower actually decreased from 80 to 76 due to the introduction of emission control equipment and "detuning" to meet stricter environmental standards (details are available in the PERFORMANCE section). Reflecting the increased displacement, rear badging for Porsche 914 vehicles changed from "1.7" or "2.0" to "1.8" or "2.0" on 1974-1976 model year cars.

1974 - 1976 "1.8" Badge: Black Plastic

"1.8" rear emblems delivered on all Porsche 914 1.8L models (1974-1976) are constructed of black plastic. They are exactly 60mm long by 20mm high and 3mm thick. These engine size designation badges are attached to the vehicles by two 10 mm rear prongs that fit through holes in the chassis and are subsequently secured via speed nuts. The prongs are spaced 51 mm center to center, with a 4 mm offset (higher on the right). This mounting post spacing is uniform across all three engine size designation emblems (1.7, 1.8 & 2.0) permitting chassis production consistency.

NOTE: There were only 18 1976 Porsche 914 1.8L vehicles produced. While rear badges on the 1976 2.0L models are vinyl adhesive, it is unknown whether the 1976 1.8L cars had a similar change or retained plastic emblems (although the latter is much more likely). If you happen to own one of the exceptionally rare 1976 1.8L Porsche 914 cars and it retains its factory rear badging, please ContactUs@P914.com.
